Ballard Locks provides an opportunity to experience one of the greatest accomplishments in the early 20th century. Hiram Chittenden Locks designed the locks together with a help of a team to link together fresh and salt water together for a channel that boats could utilize. Lots of tourists visit the site to view the elevation and depression of the water and the grand opening for various boats to pass through.
Mr. Locks also has thought about the Salmon as well. Salmon typically migrate from freshwater into saltwater and then return to lay their eggs. A fish ladder provides an opportunity for tourists to see the live salmon traveling into the ocean and a place to learn fun facts about salmon!
North of the Locks, are gorgeous Carl English and Botanical Gardens that are full of blooming flowers and are perfect for a walk any time of the year. Ballard is located in North Seattle and the Pacific Northwest Limo Service provides transportation to and from the location.
