In 1970 Washington State had less than a half dozen wineries in the Northwest region. By the end of the decade , Washington had grown to about a dozen wineries and around 3000 acres of vineyard. In 1980 Washington State had shown that it could make competitive wines. Perhaps the most important development of the decade , even more important than the wine industry’s growth.
Our local wineries have received national acclaim for their red wines. Our biggest wineries in Woodinville are Chateau Saint Michelle and The Columbia Winery both produce excellent wines.
